Background Colour with null values

I am trying to change the background colour of a textbox in a table to
display one colour if the value is null and another if there is a value. The
data is an integer type and when using isdbnull the colour displayed for the
null value columns is the colour for a value, not the null colour. If am
using '=nothing' it is displaying the null colour for the values of 0.
I am using RS 2000 SP2Try using the VB.NET syntax of 'is nothing' instead of '=nothing'

background color change in table

Hello,

I have a table with a large detail section where i display numeric information

like this

accounting info help discount common

15 20 6 17 23

10 6 9 22 8

1 6 2 7 45

...

...

...

if the list is one page long the data is difficult to read

is there a way to work with two background colors (yellow and white) and that

the background changes automatically (yellow white yellow white ....)

i know i have to work with an expression in my background property of my textcell or row

but i haven't figured out yet how to do the change (i think by odd an even rows ... but that's just

a guess).

Can anybody give me some info ...

Thanks already

Vincent

It's possilble. The expression you are looking for is described in the following post:

avoiding "NaN" , "infinity" in reports

When I use calculation in generating reports, I get "NaN" and "Infinity" values, I wanted to avoid this and display "0" if the result of calculation is null or infinity..

I used the below calculation

=(Fields!approved_tier_cnt.Value)/(Fields!approved_cnt.Value)

Please let me know how to avoid "NaN" and "infinity", while displaying in reports

Regards

Durai

Hello

What I do is tackle those Nan's before they get into RS. On your SQL Server you could make a function something like this:

CREATE FUNCTION formula (
@.Numerator REAL,
@.Denominator REAL,
@.decimals INT = 2,
@.length INT = 10
)
RETURNS VARCHAR(50)
AS BEGIN IF (
@.Denominator IS NULL )
OR (@.Numerator IS NULL )
RETURN '' IF
(@.Denominator <> 0) BEGIN
RETURN str((@.Numerator ) / @.Denominator,@.length - 1, @.decimals)
END
RETURN ''
END

et voila...
put the results in a view

I would use some explicit type casting and conditional logic.

Firstly to avoid NaN I would make sure the fields are numeric by using one of the standard VB conversion functions e.g. CInt(), CDbl() etc. like this:

=CDbl(Fields!approved_tier_cnt.Value)/CDbl(Fields!approved_cnt.Value)

Then use the Iif() function to check for nulls or check that the divisor is not 0 to avoid infinity

=Iif( Fields!approved_tier_cnt.Value AND
Fields!approved_cnt.Value AND
CDbl(Fields!approved_cnt.Value) != 0
,
CDbl(Fields!approved_tier_cnt.Value) / CDbl(Fields!approved_cnt.Value)
, 0
)

Auto-viewing of report after selection of parameter(s)

Is there a way to automatically display the report after the last parameter
has been selected? i.e. without having to click on the "View Report" button?
Also, is it possible to change the position of that button?

In terms of the automatically viewing part, the only way to
accommodate this is to set defaults for the parameters. You could set
the autorefresh functionality in addition, that would basically do a
postback at whatever frequency you set and refresh the data (via:
Layout tab >> Report drop-down >> Report Properties... >> General tab
>> Autorefresh). In terms of the View Report button, there is very
limited things that can be done to the Report Manager via CSS. These
links might be helpful.

Hope this helps.

Auto-updating Display

Hi,

I would like to create an application that displays the status of my machines almost real-time (Run, Down, or idle etc). And I'm wondering what is the common method to accomplish this? Do you tell the application to keep going out and getting the status of the machines at a specific interval? or Do you have a way for the application to just 'listen' if a status update is available for the specific machines? If so, how? I only have a 'Read' access to the database. Also, other applications update the database (and I don't have access to those applications.) My application will be in VB.NET. Thanks for any leads.Checking if a machine is up or down or it's status is not related to your database in any way.

Most of the people I know that do this utilize ADSI or WMI to accomplish the desired effect with timers to continue to call upon the servers as necessary.

Autosize reportviewer control

I want the reportviewer to display the report exactly over the entire screen. If I try to use "width=100%", the report viewer control expands beyond the screen area making us to scroll to view the "View Report" button. However, in the report manager, the same report gets displayed exactly occupying the screen size no matter what resolution the screen size is.

How is it done?

Thanks.

You may be running into doctype issues in your html. Xhtml interprets percentage width and height differently than traditional html. If you are using xhtml, try removing the xhtml doctype specification from the beginning of your html file.|||

Hi cvajre

I have same problem. did you find a solution?

Thanks..

Hi,

I think by setting the width we can control the size of the reportviewer control not the report data itself.

By setting the width to 100%, we can arrange the width of the area which includes the parameters, the view report button, paging control, export and the print controls. Not the report area. I mean we can not configure the width of the Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd.

One way of doing this can be using the Layout properties of the report. But you can use fix width then, not a percentage usage can be configured here.

One idea is using XSLT to transform the output data as html within a table of width 100%.

Autorefresh property

I'd like to display to the user how much time is left before the next
autorefresh will occur. Is there a way to display the autorefresh property
and how much time is left?

Richard Baumet
Database AdministratorNo, this is not supported. However, you could add a textbox with an
expression to the report which shows when the report was refreshed the last
time:
=Globals!ExecutionTime
